How to extract audio from a video on iPhone
Want just the sound from a video — a speech, a song from a concert clip, a voice note someone sent as a video? Here’s how to turn an iPhone video into an MP3 or WAV file, on the phone, without uploading it to a converter website.
Step 1 — Put the video in Files
If the video is in the Photos app, open it, tap the Share button and choose Save to Files. Videos you received as files (in Mail, Messages or AirDrop) can be saved to Files the same way.
Step 2 — Extract the audio
- In Tonecut, tap Extract Audio and pick the video. iPhone videos (MOV) and MP4 files both work.
- Tap Choose format & export, pick MP3 (small, plays everywhere) or WAV (uncompressed), and name the file.
- Tap Export. The audio file appears in your Tonecut Library and in the Files app under On My iPhone › Tonecut, ready to share.
Want only part of it?
Open the new audio file in Cut & Trim to keep just the section you need, add a fade, or turn it into a ringtone — see how to make a ringtone on iPhone.
Common questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere? No. Tonecut works entirely on your iPhone and has no servers — the video never leaves your phone, which is also why it works without an internet connection.
How long can the video be? Because everything is processed on the phone, Tonecut handles up to about six minutes of stereo audio at a time.
Which formats can I export? MP3 and WAV.
